Paul Ballard, a painter, printer and papermaker holds a bachelors degree in civil engineering from McGill University, Montreal (1968) and a diploma in painting from The Alberta College of Art, Calgary, Alberta (1976), where he also studied lithography. He has printed and made paper for twenty years at the Atelier de l'île ,Val-David, Québec. He has participated in many group exhibitions in Québec, Canada, U.S., Mexico, Europe and Asia and is part of Atelier de l'île's touring exhibition Forest Nomade-Vaeltava Metsä at the Canada museum of science and technology, Ottawa (2008), the Montreal Science Center (2008-2009) and the Centre d’exposition de Val-David( 2009-2010). Two of his digital prints are included as a Québec guest artist in la Biennale de la Gravure et des Nouvelles Images de Sarcelles,France (2009). In 2007 he had solo exhibitions at the RHoK Academie, Etterbeek, Brussels, Belgium and the Lithographie-Werkstatt Stadt Eichstatt, Germany. His work is represented in the collections of Le Musée d'art contemporain des Laurentides, St Jérôme, Québec; The Nickle Art Museum, U. Lawrence Bass is an artist of fictional narratives. He uses traditional media such as watercolor, oil paint, drawing and printmaking, to create dramatic and genre scenes. His work has been exhibited in Québec and in New York.
A member of the Society of Wood Engravers (England), Gerard Brender à Brandis has produced hundreds of drawings, wood engravings and watercolors of flowering plants, many of which were studied in his own garden. These images have appeared in books, including Wood, Ink and Paper, At Water's Edge and Portraits of Flowers (all published by The Porcupine's Quill) as well as in his own handmade editions.
Brender a Brandis was born in the Netherlands to a family with its origins in medieval Switzerland. He came to Canada with his family in 1947, and lived in British Columbia and Nova Scotia before settling in Ontario. After completing his B.A. in Fine Arts History at McMaster University in 1965 he set out to establish a career in blockprinting and bookmaking. His first edition of handmade books appeared in 1969 and another has been issued almost each year since then. His books have been included in the collections of The National Library, Ottawa, the New York Public Library, including books in the Print Collection and Rare BookCollection, The National Library of New Zealand, and many public and university libraries, as well as private collections. His single-leaf engravings are in The National Gallery, Ottawa, The Royal Botanical Gardens, Hamilton, The Hunt Botanical Library, Pittsburgh, and in private collections in Canada, The United States, Europe, Britain and Japan. He now lives and works in Stratford, Ontario.
Dan Ford is a Brooklyn-based artist who has exhibited in the United States, England, and Australia. In New York his work has been shown at Ronald Feldman Gallery, Satellite, Van Brunt Gallery, White Box, MMC Gallery, The Drawing Center, Metaphor, Roebling Hall, Rotunda Gallery, Parker's Box, White Columns, and the Dumbo Art Center. Other galleries in the United States that have presented his paintings include the Peninsula Fine Art Center, Virginia, Abington Art Center, Philadelphia, PA, the Brattleboro Museum, Vermont, The Hudson River Museum, Yonkers, NY, Hood Museum of Art, Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH, and the Aronoff Center, Cincinnati, OH. He has been written about in, among others, the New York Times, Art News, and Harper's Magazine. In 2002 he received a NYFA fellowship in painting.
Sharon Goldberg is a Canadian painter and printmaker living in New York City. Based in the figurative tradition, she explores observational forms and works with both traditional and non-traditional methods and materials. She received her training at the New York Studio School and the New York Academy of Art in New York. She has a printmaking studio in Stratford, Ontario, has exhibited her work in New York, Canada and Italy. She is a part-time assistant to the August Laube Buch gallery of Zurich, Switzerland as well as an active independent gallerist.
Olga Inés Magnano is a printmaker, painter and sculptor. Born in Argentina, she is a Canadian citizen living and working in Québec. She is an active member of the Atelier de l'île ,Val-David, Québec. She has exhibited her work in Canada, Europe, Argentina, and Japan. She studied fine arts at the Université du Québec a Montreal as well as with many noted artists in the Montreal region.
Kellyann Monaghan was born in Philadelphia. She studied painting at Philadelphia's Moore College of Art and Design. Shortly after graduating from Moore she acquired a studio in Philadelphia's downtown area, where she began her fascination with the cityscape. She moved to New York in 1999 to study Painting at the MFA program of Brooklyn College. She has continuously tackled the subjects of the urban landscapes, industrial spaces and architectural interiors. She finds the beauty in the gritty, urban worlds through paint and print. The neighborhoods or Long Island City, Red Hook and most recently Greenpoint have been included in her urban depictions. She now lives and works in the Greenpoint area of Brooklyn. She teaches full-time at Adelphi University.
Padma Rajendran was born in Klang, Malaysia. She is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College. She has exhibited at Strohl Art Center and Logan Galleries in Chautauqua, New York. She is currently Departmental Assistant in the Department of Fine Arts at Haverford College.
Edward Steele, painter, digital artist, and children's book illustrator lives in and works in Tarrytown, New York . His commissioned paintings are in many private collections in the region. A degree in English from Northwestern University has left a literary mark on his visual pursuits.
Kristie Valentine is a Brooklyn-based painter/printmaker, and a graduate of Brooklyn College (MFA) and the Rhode Island School of Design (BFA). She grew up in the suburban environment of New Jersey and Florida, and her childhood informs her interest in this particularly American architectural environment.
Elizabeth Whalley is a visual artist who works at the intersection of old and new media. Painting, drawing, and printmaking form the core of her work and sometimes evolve into explorations of experimental media and site-specific projects. She is currently teaching at Pratt Institute, Adelphi University and Haverford College. She lives and works in Queens, New York and in Morin Heights, Québec.
